Mountain Biking
The Baakens Valley is filled with many mountain bike trails. It stretches through most of PE and boasts many great routes. The best place to start is from Cyclo Pro, as many of the routes start from here, and there is safe, sufficient parking. The section behind our shop is the most safe to ride as there as many walkers and cyclists using this area. The Baakens is not marked with routes, but pop into the shop and we can give you advice on where to ride.
Woodridge School is filled with lovely technical riding, ranging from easy to very technical. Many national events have been held at this venue. Its great on a windy day, as the trees offer shelter and shade. Permits are required, at a cost of R20 per day or R100 per year. They are available from Cyclo Pro, and must be shown to security guard when entering the premises. With this permit, you are also able to ride on Grant Puttergill’s farm, which is across the Van Staden’s Gorge. There is great singletrack riding. Please be aware this is private property, therefore it is required you contact Grant before riding on his farm. A number will be given to you when purchasing the permit.
Longmore forest provides kilometres and kilometres of riding. Many gravel roads to get the miles in the legs, with single track in various places. It’s best to stick to the main roads to avoid getting lost.Permits are required and are available at Cyclo Pro for a cost of R15 per day or R95 per year. Cyclists are required to ride with permit at all times. The forest is open from Sunrise to sunset. Identification is now required for you to ride in Longmore. You therefore are required to be a Fat Tracks member and ride with your permanent number on at all times. For more info, go to www.fattracks.co.za
Norm-Hudlin Mountain Bike Trails are purpose built riding trails which cater for all levels of mountain bikers. The permits are available at the gate for R10 per day or R100 per 6 months. For more info, contact Lex on 083 342 8306.
Loerie Ruskamp is about a 45 minutes drive from PE, and provides kilometers of very scenic riding. From gravel roads and single track to the National Downhill course. Permits are available from Cyclo Pro for R20 per day. Special arrangements need to be made to use the downhill track. Please chat to Julie at Cyclo Pro for more info.
