We’re absolutely spoilt for trail options in and around Port Elizabeth. The Fattracks Mountain Bike Club has done phenomenal work building and maintaining the trails in the region, and there’s riding for every level within a short drive of the shop.

Right outside the shop

Baakens Valley

Start/finish: the parking lot outside Cyclo Pro (green Fattracks containers)

The routes in the Baakens Valley are maintained by the Fattracks Mountain Bike Club, and there is no fee to ride. Trails criss-cross the valley all the way down to Bridge Street Brewery.

Most of it is technical singletrack, but there are shorter, flatter routes for novice riders around the containers. We always recommend riding in pairs.

Central PE

PE Golf Course

Pay at the honesty box at Jack’s Bagels

A perfect place for novice or younger riders. The routes around the golf course are mostly non-technical singletrack and relatively flat.

Because it’s central, it’s also a great before- or after-work ride.

One of the very best beginner and family-orientated trails around, with lots of distance options. It’s all singletrack, with some fantastic twisty sections through the trees.

The trailhead has toilets, showers, a coffee shop and shade (availability and times to be confirmed). For a longer day, ride there from home, do a lap and ride home.

Some of the most enjoyable trails in Southern Africa. They start and finish at Crossways Farm Kitchen, so coffee and food are sorted before and after.

There are trails for everyone, from novices and small children right up to Cape Epic level riders.

Hayterdale lies in the Zuurberg Mountains at the heart of the Addo region of the Eastern Cape, with about 50 km of mountain biking, running and hiking trails.

The terrain is properly diverse, and it’s South Africa’s best-kept mountain biking secret.
